Chapters 9 - 10 Summary

Chapter 9: Jessica does not return home until after 2 a.m. She had been swimming with Jonathan in the river. The next morning, Jessica banters with Beth. Beth keeps Jessica's secret while they are in the presence of Don Day, their father. Once they are alone, Jessica thanks Beth who replies that she will find out what is going on, no matter what.

Chapter 10: Rex and Melissa return to Jenks the next day to clear Cassie's memory. They share a romantic encounter while waiting for midnight to fall. Melissa is able to taste much more about Rex's meeting with the darkling. She realizes Rex is becoming much stronger when he accidentally bites her during their kiss.

Once midnight arrives, Melissa reads Rex's mind and sees his secret. He had been visited by Angie who wrote to him in signs from the lore...
