Chapters 1 - 2 Summary

Chapter 1: Melissa arrives at Rex's house to pick him up for school. She stands in as his alarm clock since the buzzing of electronics gives Rex a headache. It has only been two weeks since Rex was turned into a part darkling. As they arrive at school, they realize it is the day of the school's pep rally. Melissa promises to help Rex through it. As midnighters, they both have trouble being around large groups of people but together, they help each other control their emotions.

Rex forgets one of his school books and quickly runs back to his locker before the pep rally starts. He runs into Timmy Hudson. Timmy has bullied Rex since 5th grade. Timmy tries to threaten Rex yet again but he has not met this new Rex yet. Rex is unable to control himself and he...
