Chapter 17 Summary

The next morning, Susannah dresses in her best butt-kicking outfit. When her stepbrothers see her, Dopey calls hers the "Queen of the Undead" and she punches him in the stomach. When Susannah gets to school, Sister Ernestine bawls her out in front of the whole school for wearing a miniskirt and sends her home to change. As Susannah is walking off school grounds, Marcus pulls up in a car with smoked windows and tries to get her inside. Suddenly, two men burst out of the car and try to grab Susannah. When the thugs fail at trapping Susannah, Marcus gets her and throws her in his car. She tells Marcus that her mother is a reporter in hopes of scaring him to let her go.
