Chapters 12 and 13 Summary

In chapter twelve, Clary convinces Simon to call Jace with the news of Maia's attack. Jace is immediately concerned, fearing that Clary has been hurt, and Simon says that Jace - Clary's brother - has no right to sound so brokenhearted over his recent lack of communication with Clary. After Simon relates the situation to Jace and hangs up, Clary says she hates that she's always afraid and always on the lookout for the next attack. Simon and Clary return to the living room where Maia is resting. She says Luke has gone to move the truck before the neighbors remarked on it sitting on the lawn. Maia says she's thirsty and Simon pours her some water. When he gets close, Maia jumps to her feet and attacks, recognizing Simon as a vampire. She's furious and he's hurt at her reaction...
