Chapter 5 Summary

As Jenna and Yoshiko walk along the beach, Jenna collects seashells something she has been doing since they arrived. She spots an unusual shell and picks it up, wondering what kind it is. A voice behind her tells her it's a "Cyrtopleura costata." The voice came from a young dark-haired man who is with another young man with long blond hair. They introduce themselves as Derrick Peterson and Tom Butler. Derrick is visiting Tom who works at the Darling Animal Preserve. They are friends from their college days. The young men invite the girls to dinner. They make plans to meet at McT's Shrimp that evening.

Back in their room, Jenna writes out postcards to some friends including Danny. She had called her mother earlier. Her mother was happy that Jenna was away from school and work and having some fun. Her thoughts...
