The protagonist of the novel, David Webb, is a man tormented by having two distinct personalities residing in his body. David Webb, the professor, is happily married and the father of two wonderful children. His past includes being a member of a death squad in Vietnam and a CIA trained assassin created to go after Carlos the Jackal. As David Webb, with the help of his wife, Marie, he struggles with memories that come from his alter personae. His life is just about on an even keel, when the Jackal crops up again, threatening to murder his family. At that point, Jason Bourne re-emerges though he is now fifty years old and not as athletic as he once was. Bourne is a cold-blooded killer and thinks like an assassin. He fights the urge.....
