Chapter 23 Summary

Jason comes to in Santos' apartment over Le Coeur du Soldat. The big bartender is there, waiting for him to wake up. He has an ice bag ready for Jason and begins by talking very civilly. Then, the conversation turns nasty, as Jason realizes he has to tell enough of the truth about how he knew about the bar and "blackbird," the code name for the Jackal. Otherwise, he will be found floating on the Seine. Finally, Jason agrees to pay three million francs and gives Santos the name of Atkinson, the American Ambassador to the Court of St. James as a contact, telling him to inform Atkinson that "Snake Lady" told him to call. "Snake Lady" is the code name of Medusa.
