Summary

Chapter 49

Tris muses that the death serum spray smells like smoke and spice. She describes its affects, and that it wants her to lay down and go to sleep. She fights that desire by repeating the names of her friends, over and over to stay awake, fighting the serum. This chapter is all about her fight with the serum and how her body is tired and wants to die, but her spirit will not let her. She says: "I am not done yet, I am not." (Page 467).

She manages to withstand the death serum, but just as she shoves herself up off of the ground, there is a gun pointed at her. It is David.

Chapter 50

David is unwilling to believe that she's been able to withstand the death serum without some sort of inoculation, which only he, David, has. Tris accuses him...
