Summary

Chapter One

The first chapter of the novel picks up chronologically where the previous novel left off. Tris is imprisoned in Erudite headquarters, and is trying to make sense of the video that they broadcast to the entire faction system. The idea that her mother was once Dauntless, was part of the Bureau that set up the factions, shakes her to her very core. She's in the cell with Cara and Christina who help her to try and make sense of their situation and to formulate a plan of escape. While they are imprisoned in Erudite headquarters, it is the factionless who've captured them and are holding them prisoners. Chief among Tris's worries is the fact that Tobias has yet to find her and come to see her, even though they've been incarcerated for a few days. One thing is certain: if she...
