Lesson 1 (from Chapter 1)

Objective

Case, the main character of Neuromancer, is a career criminal. A former hacker, he has turned to dealing drugs and stolen property now that his ability to interface with cyberspace has been burned out of his brain.

Lesson

1 - Class discussion: What kind of person is Case? Is he a hero, or an anti-hero? What problems does he suffer from? How does he feel about the possibility of his own death? What motivates him?

2 -Missing scenes: Each student writes 2-3 paragraphs describing the night that Case has his talents forcibly removed.

3 - Group work and presentation: Divide the class into groups of 3-4. Each group creates a personality profile of Case and presents it to the class in the form of a 5-minute presentation.
