Object Descriptions
This section provides a short description of all the major objects in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.
Objects
Au Bonheur des Dames - This is the small shop that grows to a giant department store covering an entire city block.
Neighborhood Shops - All of these enterprises are bankrupt or become so because they cannot compete with the growing empire of Au Bonheur des Dames.
Cornailles - This is the top ladies' wear shop in Valgones, where Denise works for two years before moving to Paris.
Valgones - This is the province from which Denise comes.
Au Vieil Elbeuf - This is the flannel shop that Baudu owns.
