Summary

In Chapter 28, Jember takes a horse from the church and gives Andromeda a ride to Thorne Manor. She has only a few minutes to convince him to stay. She pleads with him to say something meaningful as their final goodbye. He says he will miss her. She forces herself not to cry when she says, “You're the closest thing I'll ever have to a father” (252). Saba clutches Jember's leg. Andromeda knows he would have stabbed anyone else for that, but he just tells Saba to let go. Andromeda says Saba is asking for help. Jember says Saba chose to leave him, meaning he owes her nothing. She pushes him off the horse. Jember loses his false leg in the fall. He says he cannot face a hyena again. Saba takes Andromeda inside though Andromeda worries that Jember cannot mount the horse without help...
