Summary

In Chapter 25, Virgil returned to Rick Crow’s trailer in an attempt to find Nathan, and discovered a slip of paper with the words “Cropper Cabin” (265) on it. Virgil found out that this was the name of a motel in Valentine and drove there. The motel clerk, a white man who made racist comments to Virgil, refused to give him information. Virgil hit the man and put pressure on his arm until he admitted the dealers had been there a few days ago. Dennis called Virgil and told him the dealers’ car had been found abandoned along with Nathan’s cell phone, which had been smashed. Virgil went to visit Sybil’s grave, feeling that he had entered the “winter of [his] sorrow” (271).
