Summary

The novel is narrated primarily in first-person, past tense by Belly, though Conrad also narrates a few chapters. In Chapter One, Belly studied for her last final of her freshman year at Finch University with her two closest friends, Anika Johnson and Taylor Jewel. When she returned to her dorm, she found her boyfriend, Jeremiah, sleeping in her bed. He was a sophomore at Finch, and they had been dating since just before the start of her senior year in high school. The couple had grown up together because their mothers were best friends. Both families spent every summer at Jeremiah’s mother’s beach house in Cousins. Belly had been in love with Jeremiah’s older brother, Conrad, for her whole life.
