Forest

The forest is a symbol of secrecy. Throughout the novel, the characters frequently return to the forest, hunting for clues to the past. Yet because the forest mutates, grows, and changes year by year, it successfully conceals the past. The forest is its own entity and often mimics the movements and mysteries of time itself.
