Summary

After hearing that Mejan had confessed, Eira listened to Mejan’s police interview (209). Mejan had decided to kill Sven when she learned he had discovered Tryggve’s past. Convinced Sven would not keep the secret, Mejan feared what would happen to her family.

Before Eira returned home to her home station, she and GG visited Tryggve. During the conversation, Tryggve seemed close to confessing something. GG let Eira probe him about Lina’s case. Tryggve said had seen Lina in a rowboat with another person on the night of her disappearance. Eira realized Tryggve would have seen Lina after Olof had supposedly killed her. When Eira and GG asked why he would offer this information 23 years later, Tryggve ended the conversation.
