Summary
Part VII is called “Taking Nothing With Him”. During Korin’s last night in the apartment, he couldn’t sleep. Maria came into his room in the night but he pretended to be asleep. She stroked the scar on his hand and left. In the morning, before he left, Korin had another look and the hiding place behind the tile in the shared bathroom. He saw that the sachets of white powder had been replaced with a large quantity of money. Korin saved the file of the typed up manuscript one last time and named the file “War and War”. He travelled to the Hungarian quarter in New York, hoping to buy a gun. On his way, he passed a store with multiple televisions in the window.
