Karsten is livid and wants to know who they are working for. He demands an explanation as to how they got in, so Tory tells him the truth. When Karsten tries to bully them with the magnitude of their criminal behavior, Hi throws his own illegalities back at him, referring to his unauthorized experimentation. Karsten turns pale and then quietly admits that they are right. His project was not only secret, but illegal as well. He tells them that he'd only done it with the most altruistic of motives and had taken all precautions. When he learns they've been sick, he presses for details assuring them that he is the only one who can help them. He confirms Tory's suspicions, and they begin to tell him the rest of it.
