Summary

The third section is called “Weybridge” and is told from the perspective of Richard Spencer, the banker and owner of the gold bar depicted in A Fool’s Gold. At his former family home in Weybridge, Richard watched as his ex-wife Claire got his daughter Rosie ready for bed and was saddened to realize that they did not need him and were getting along fine without him. Richard’s reputation had taken a severe knock in the aftermath of the article being published but several friends and colleagues had “offered a few soft landings” (88) so he was confident that things would work out once the attention from the article blew over.
