Thursday Next is the heroine of the novel. She works at the Literary Detectives and is married to Landen Parke-Laine. They had been married for the week before her appearance on the Adrian Lush Show. Thursday works in the Special Ops department and is trying to secure a transfer. She is a Special Operative Agent. Thursday had fought in the Crimean War in which her brother died. As a Special Operative agent for Literary Detectives, Thursday uses a prose portal to enter a novel and to investigate the characters and events and the author.
