Summary

In Chapter 4, Michael explains that Springville has a Black prom and a white prom although the Black prom is really for all people of color as well as for LGBTQIA+ students. This is legal because it is run by parents, not the school. The white prom is held at a country club whereas the Black prom is held at a location called The Barn. The two locations are only about 100 yards from each other.

On May 7, the students talk about the pencil incident. Kenny and Wendy will not attend prom because they cannot attend the same one. Jules is upset about who filmed them and says that worse bullying could have happened to Maddy. Charlotte is concerned that college offers could be rescinded and that the media could show up at prom.
