Summary

Chapter 12 begins with the first person narration of a character named Adolin Kholin. He is the son of Dalinar Kholin and cousin to King Elhokar. Adolin is riding alongside his brother as the king and a large escort are travelling towards a plateau on the Shattered Plains to participate in a hunt for a chasm fiend. As they ride, Adolin looks at the men in Shardplate and wishes that his father would continue living up to the reputation of being a great warrior that he obtained when he was younger. Adolin realizes that his father is probably thinking about the visions he has recently started having during the highstorms. Adolin talks to his brother Renarin about them, pondering what they could mean. The brothers then talk about Adolin's womanizing and Adolin wishes he could duel everyone who insulted his father.
