Tiffany

Tiffany is the main character and narrator of the novel. She is the wife of Stephen. She married Stephen after they dated only three weeks and knew very little about him. She got pregnant soon after she and Stephen got married but lost the baby because of a car wreck.

Tiffany had an affair with Elvis, a man who worked at a nearby gas station, but admitted she wanted to stay with Stephen because he was stable. As long as she was with Stephen she knew that she would not have to work because he made enough money to support them both. Tiffany next became involved with Olaf who was also married. Olaf introduced her to Reverend Gernot who got Tiffany interested in the Elbe River and the Steckby-Lödderitzer Tree Farm. She stayed at Gernot’s house while she worked prying rocks from the river’s banks...
