Summary

In “Thursday,” Chapter 28, in the morning, Greta and Ben prepare to visit Icy Strait Point. Greta sees messages from Howie, but ignores them. When Greta sees Conrad, they talk about the day’s whale watching venture. Conrad confesses he does not know “how to do this” without Helen (249).

Greta and Ben find a spot on the whale watching boat. While looking for the whales, they talk about the past and the future. When the whales appear in the water, Greta feels overwhelmed with emotion. She takes Ben’s hand and sings “Baby Beluga,” a song Helen used to sing to her. She then tells Ben that she had the chance to see Helen before her death, but chose to stay in Berlin.
