Chapters 6-11 Summary

Chapter 6 opens in London with MI5 and Albert Vicary's duties there. He is in charge of locating German spies and either having them executed or turning them for England. One of Vicary's turned spies is Becker, who is located in a prison near London and provided with a radio from which to send reports. Vicary has created a huge imaginary network of spies and activities for Becker to use in transmitting misinformation to the Germans. Vicary meets with his supervisor, Basil Boothby. There is a discussion about military deception, and Boothby confirms to Vicary that Normandy is indeed the landing spot for the invasion. Boothby tells Vicary that he is in charge of the deception and the misinformation regarding the Dover false army, and emphasizes that Vogel and his spies must never learn the truth about the invasion landing spot.
