Bitterthorn Summary

Against the stark contrast of land covered in snow are three figures. One is Calwyn, a girl with dark hair and dark eyes. She is dressed in layers of clothing and animal furs to keep her warm. Calwyn doesn't smile much anymore. The other two figures, Mica and Trout, are friends of Calwyn's.

The three are heading toward Calwyn's home, Antaris, from a city along the coast, Kalysons. The journey has been difficult with the snow and ice covering the land, even parts that are not typically frozen and this cold. One of them asks Calwyn if she saw the moons the previous night. They say they saw a formation that suggests it shouldn't be winter anymore, but instead should be spring.

Trout is strapping a blade to Mica's boot so they can all skate across the frozen lake. Calwyn finds a sprig...
