Bell

The bell that Nishino gives Natsumi in "Parfait" is symbolic of the past. When Nishino gives Natsumi the bell, he tells her it will allow him to know where she is at all times. Then, when Nishino dies at the end of the chapter, Natsumi hears the bell ringing out. The bell is a reminder of the past love that she and Nishino shared, and the ways it will last throughout time.

Vacant Lot

The vacant lot in which Shiori buries things in "In the Grass," is symbolic of sadness. The lot is the one place where Shiori, as well as Nishino, feel a sense of solace and secrecy. The lot protects them from the world beyond. At the same time, the lot is a proverbial graveyard of the characters' sadness and sorrows.
