Summary

Story 1 is titled "The Irish Wedding." Jack and Sadie are driving a rental car to “a Georgian cube” (3) in the Irish countryside, belonging to Jack’s family, to attend a wedding. Although Jack was born and partly-raised in America, his family is English. Jack and Sadie are an unmarried couple. Sadie meets several of Jack’s family members and asks Jack why someone called him Lenny. Jack explains that his given name is Leonard. Jack and Sadie sleep on the mattress.

A few hours later, Sadie wakes up to the sound of children and Jack elsewhere. Sadie encounters Piet, the groom, in the hallway. Piet tells Sadie that a dog and cat are in the rental car. Sadie asks if the wedding will be at the house. Piet explains that Fiona, the bride, wants to get married in a church because...
