Chapter 11 Summary

When Adelia is summoned by Jacques, she declines, saying she is ill. She is sending a message back to the killer that she heeds his warning. Adelia also thinks that this is the killer of Rosamund and Bertha, with the message of moving Allie being that he only kills if he has to kill.

In the middle of the night, they are wakened by the tolling of bells and people yelling fire. They determine it is the lockup where Dakers is being held prisoner. Adelia convinces Cross, who is guarding the lockup to let her see Dakers. Cross says it was just a small fire in the hay inside that he was able to stomp out. Cross lifts Adelia to peer into the cell where Dakers is.
