Repeat Room

The repeat room is symbolic of the justice system. In the repeat room, the chosen juror is meant to experience the defendant's story and crime in an allegedly neutral manner. Afterwards, the juror decides the defendant's fate. The juror is therefore granted the illusion of power and justice, although the entire repeat room experience is manipulated using the helmet, drugs, and holograms. In these ways, the author is commenting on the flaws in the American justice system, which repeats cycles of violence.

Helmet

The helmet that Abel must wear when he experiences the repeat room is symbolic of manipulation. Abel does not know what the helmet is meant to do and thus does not know how it is impacting him. The helmet is the courthouse officials' way of controlling Abel and thus manipulating his perception of the defendant's story.
