Summary

The defendant and his sister did not worry about his sister getting pregnant because their parents sterilized them when they were young. They did not want the siblings to “engage in the passing-on of [their] genes” (173). In retrospect, the defendant wishes he and his sister had talked more about what was happening to them and what they were doing. He realizes what he could have asked his sister as she was better at “explain[ing] such hurt” (176).

The siblings “woke up together every day” until the day the defendant’s sister “was gone” (178). The defendant loved lying next to his sister and listening to her recall memories from when she was young. Discussing the time before the roleplaying was forbidden as the parents had taught their children “there is no reason for anything” (181). Retrospectively, the defendant acknowledges holes in his parents’ philosophy.
