Section 14: Chapters 38 & 39 Summary

In Chapter 38: The House Is in the House, Carter flies out of the pyramid with Set when he realizes they are going to destroy the pyramid, plus he needs to give Sadie time to free the sarcophagus which contains their father. Carter is shocked when he notices magicians from the House of Life battling Set's demons, but when Desjardins tries to destroy the capstone, Set stops him. Tripping Carter and placing the capstone, Set mocks that Carter cannot defeat him alone, especially in the desert, his source of power. Sadie rises from the air vent and agrees with Set, "except Horus is not alone. And we're not going to fight you in the desert" (p. 464). She strikes her staff against the pyramid and shouts the last words Carter would expect her to use as a battle cry.
