Revenge

Revenge is a typical theme in novels and is the case in "The Racketeer". A character has been treated badly by someone so they seek revenge against those who have done them wrong. In this novel Malcolm Bannister spends years putting together a plan that will not only gain him freedom from prison, but also make the federal government look foolish.

Malcolm was sent to prison for ten years for money laundering. As a lawyer he accepted the business of a client, who was less than law abiding in his business activities. Unbeknownst to Malcolm the client was using him and his firm to launder criminal funds. Once he realized what was happening it was too late.
