Summary

In Chapter 46, narrated by Hannah, Christopher arrived home early and woke Hannah to find out where Janie was. Christopher was horrified to learn that Hannah had been locking Janie in her room every day. Inside Janie’s room, he saw the way that she had smeared poop on the walls. Her room was a disaster. Hannah admitted that she had been locking Janie in the room each day since Janie killed the kitten. She did not feel safe with the room unlocked. Christopher insinuated that Hannah was mistreating Janie. When Hannah reminded him that Janie’s grandmother had said that Janie was evil, Christopher slapped Hannah.

In Case #5243, Luke showed Piper the picture of Hannah’s face where Christopher had slapped her. She sensed they had based their opinion of Christopher on that one incident.
