Summary

In 1969, Bobby went to Paris to race cars. He spent his days practicing. Alicia “left school and came to Paris” (199). He started traveling “all over Europe” (199). When he and Alicia met up, she would talk “feverishly about mathematical ideas” (199).

Bobby returned to Taylor’s. Lou told him there was a diving job in Pensacola. Not long later, the company chopper brought Bobby to the rig in Pensacola. Bobby was unafraid of the job, but worried that someone might find him. He spent the next days working alone. He became increasingly paranoid. He heard what he thought was a person on the rig. His thought about Alicia. Meanwhile, he could not dispel the feeling that “Someone was on the rig with him” (205).
