Chapter 5

The Udat returns to normal space. Dr. Alkad Mzu is among the debris surrounding the ship and has been protected from the vacuum of space by a special suit. Captain Meyer has sustained serious neurological damage from Tranquility's affinity commands. Mzu is brought on board and urges Udat to make one more swallow so that their course will be untraceable.

In San Angeles, Jezzibella is held up from departure by Capone, who has commandeered the space port for an impending attack on the nearby asteroid systems. Jezzibella convinces Capone to allow her to become his consultant, telling him that New California is a "small potato" planet and that he should set his sights higher.

Oenone arrives in Jupiter, with Syrinx in zero-tau, and bringing Laton's last communication about what has happened on Pernik. Laton's final address is played to Edenist...
