Summary
In Honeymoon, 2009, in the chapter titled "Short Order,” Winnie, Diz, and Gary insist that Kismet make them breakfast the next morning. Kismet takes her own food outside. She studies the landscape, wondering how to get in touch with Crystal. She does not have cell service on the farm.
In “Magic Beans,” while Diz and Gary work the fields, Diz thinks about the pesticides they use to kill the weeds and farm the beets.
In “Across the Lilacs,” Winnie brings Kismet to the big house to help her clean. She runs a bath while Kismet starts tackling a year’s worth of filth. Winnie promises to take her into town afterwards, but ends up napping instead.
In “The Pasture,” Winnie studies “her family’s old farmstead from her bedroom” and reflects on how Diz’s family stole their land years prior (187). She survived the loss...
