Summary

In Chapter 16, Mr. Preston and his daughter, Charlotte, go to the police station to assist the main character. The author introduces other character into the dynamic between Molly and the police. The main character is relieved to have assistance in navigating dealings with the criminal justice system.

At the hearing in Chapter 17, Detective Stark argues that Molly should not receive bail. However Charlotte, acting as Molly’s lawyer, proves to the judge that Molly is not a flight risk as evidenced by her lack of passport and her abnormally regimented schedule. With Charlotte’s legal counsel, Molly appeals to the judge and is allowed to return home on bail.
