Summary

In Chapter 1, Tim considered how ironic it was that Luke’s high level of intelligence, the trait that the people at the Institute thought was unimportant, was the one that ultimately brought them down.

In Chapter 2, during a stop, Luke asked Tim if Tim thought the conditions Luke had given Stackhouse were solid. Luke told Tim he felt as if he were playing chess with Stackhouse. He was trying to anticipate future moves and knew that it would take them five hours to get to the Institute. In that time, his friends might be able to do something to save themselves, but Stackhouse also might kill them during that time. Tim reminded Luke That Stackhouse probably had another boss more powerful than Sigsby, another reason he would stay and not hurt the children.
