Summary

In Chapter 11, Faith rushes to her AA meeting. During the meeting break, she gets a woman named Rachel to sign her form confirming that she attended the meeting. Rachel is smiling until she sees Faith’s name on the form. Finally, she gives a “tight-lipped smile” (83) and signs the paperwork. Rachel leaves, and Jane arrives with food that she offers to Faith. While they talk about the food, Jane reveals that she lives in the church’s missionary apartment, and Rachel is the pastor’s wife as well as a recovering alcoholic. Faith realizes that Rachel is Mrs. Foster’s sister. When Faith looks at Rachel again, she sees fear in Rachel’s expression.
