Summary

Lizette and Angel go to Lizette's house after class to work on their assignment. Angel is horrified by the junk in a neighbor's yard. The outside of the house Lizette shares with her brother and his girlfriend seems much neater than the neighbor's, but the house is filthy. Lizette places her infant daughter on the sidewalk while she searches for her key though the ground is hot. Angel offers to hold her. Angel knows Lizette was raped by an uncle, which is how she became pregnant, and he has recently been released from jail. Lizette says it is not a big deal because she has only seen him once. Lizette believes her brother and his girlfriend will break up soon, and she is not sure where she will live then. She soon will be 18-years-old, and she expects to live on her own...
