Part 3, Chapter 4 Summary

The police officers recover from the take-over in the gun shop and free themselves from their restraints. They hear on the police radio about the robbery in the pharmacy and assume the perpetrator is the same person who attacked them. The police enter the pharmacy and start a gun battle with Roland. Roland is shocked by the level of violence the police are capable of and believes that such indiscriminate shooting would not be tolerated in his own world. Roland tricks the police and manages to escape.

He steals the police car and drives to the same subway station that Jack Mort once pushed Odetta Holmes in. When they get inside the subway station, another pair of police officers pursues them.
