A Perpetrator Summary

The guards discover Alpha in the basement, trying to roll up the twine. They also find a book, a peacoat, and some other possessions. The book is the "Disreputable History of the Basset Hounds", accidentally left behind by Frankie. Alpha is the number one suspect. He is charged with theft, trespassing, and a number of other serious allegations.

Matthew tells Frankie about all of this when she is in the nurse's office for her burn, but no one knows the possessions in the tunnels were actually Frankie's. The school board has voted to expel Alpha, which could endanger Alpha's early acceptance to Harvard. Porter has turned in e-mails to Richmond, further implicating Alpha.

She confesses to Matthew her involvement. Matthew is enraged, believing Frankie has lied to him and has targeted Alpha. Matthew says he is going to Headmaster Richmond, and...
