Incident At A Shoe Counter Summary

Lije and Daneel find a hostile situation between six women and the store manager about the fact that robots are store clerks. Lije feels awkward listening to someone bashing robots when he is about to work closely with one. Lije reminisces about his own unfortunate situation with robots as a child. His father, a nuclear physicist, lost his job when an accident occurred at the power plant. His family lived meagerly until his father died when Lije was eight, leaving him and his two older sisters to the Section orphanage. It is difficult for Lije not to side with the outraged women, but he has his job to worry about. He explains that the robots are just doing what they have been created to do, so the women can accept it or leave the store...
