Summary

In Chapter 33, Annabelle went to the Zen Serenity Day Spa. While getting a massage, she cried. Afterwards, she told herself she was “the kind of woman” who took “care of herself” (239). That night, she thought about Kenji and masturbated. In the morning, she found a new poem on the refrigerator, believing it was Kenji.

In “Benny,” Benny does not want to hear about his “mom’s sex life” (241). Hearing the Book describe her poem discovery, however, does clarify why she asked Benny about the magnets. He does not “really believe in ghosts,” and is too busy to uncover the poem’s mystery (242).

In “The Book,” the Book excuses Benny for being distracted. They understand children “have a limited ability to understand” their parents (243).
