Summary

The next scene picks up with Feral leading a group into La Ville Morte. There is a “big iron wall” separating the swampy area known as Swamp Pontchartrain. Creeper was surprised that simply mentioning Agnes and Eunice prompted some boatmen to give them rides. The men do not ask any questions, probably assuming “the less they know the better” (71). They refuse to take them past the borders of the dead city – La Ville Morte. This was part of the overall city until a storm caused flooding, taking many lives in the process. Once there were no more living people, the swamp claimed the land. Creeper notes plants growing on and through buildings, including large trees. Feral leads the way, sometimes wading and sometimes swimming. When Ann-Marie seems skeptical she knows where she is going, Creeper says Feral is one of the Hideaways. She...
