Summary

The next scene picks up the following morning. Creeper is in Emancipation Square, keeping an eye on the telegraph station. She reads about the upcoming festivities while she waits. They are waiting for some officials to arrive to kick off the Night March in honor of the 1811 slave uprisings. While the events have been controversial in the past, the media is now saying “It's a good way to remember the unity that keep free New Orleans strong” (38). Creeper watches Ann-Marie enter the telegraph office, catching up with her as she leaves. Ann-Marie says Creeper was supposed to wait for her the night before.
