Sacrifice

A very prominent theme in The Atlantis Gene is that of sacrifice. Many of the characters are willing to sacrifice themselves or the lives of others in order to gain the overall outcome they wish. Some characters have selfish reasons for the sacrifices and little thought for those they choose to destroy while others are willing to selflessly sacrifice themselves in order to save someone they love or the entire world.

Dr. Kate Warner loves the autistic children she is working with in Jakarta, Indonesia. When two of them, Adi and Surya are kidnapped she will does not stop until she finds them and secures their safety. When the two boys are first kidnapped she selflessly faces their armed kidnappers in order to protect the children. Unfortunately, she is injured in the process and the boys are taken.
