Summary

Stéphane is turning twenty-four, and he, Anne-Catherine, his mother, and one of his mother's dachshunds are driving across to Germany to celebrate. They walk through the Black Forest, and drive through Baden-Baden to visit New Castle, a beautiful castle hosting a Sotheby's pre-sale show. The one hundred six rooms in the castle are showing pieces from a large Sotheby's estate sale, for which Stéphane has seen the catalogue and knows exactly what he wants to take. The only hindrance is that his mother is with him.

Stéphane has always said that he and his mother hardly interacted as adults, unlike when they were very close when he was a young boy.
