Summary

Stéphane fell in love with art as a little boy. He would go on pretend expeditions with his grandfather, exploring the ruins of medieval fortresses and woods with his maternal grandfather. They would find arrowheads and pieces of pottery together, which inspired Brietweiser's passion for art collecting. He would keep his findings in a small, blue, plastic box in his basement.

Stéphane Breitwieser was born in 1971, to a family which had lived in the Alsace region of France for generations. Alsace, itself, is a heavily contested territory between France and Germany. Breitwieser grew up in a nice house, in the village of Wittenheim, in the French part of Alsace, near the border of Switzerland and Germany.
